Bittergourd is a common vegetable used in various recipes across India. It has a lot of medicinal properties. It is known to control sugar levels in diabetics, acts as a deworming agent and hence good for children. However, it is contraindicated during pregnancy. I post a simple recipe of spicy fried bitter gourd which is very easy to prepare and tastes really good.

I post a simple recipe of spicy fried bitter gourd which is very easy to prepare and tastes really good.
Ingredients:
- Bittergourd - 2, cleaned and cut into slices
- Besan or gram flour - 4 tablespoons
- Rice flour - 2 tablespoons
- Corn flour - 1 tablespoon
- White sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder - 2 teaspoons
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Water - 3-4 tablespoons
- Oil for frying
Method:
- Take the besan in a mixing bowl
- Add the rice flour, corn flour, white sesame seeds, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt
- Mix well
- Add the sliced bittergourd to it and mix well so that it gets coated with the flour mixture
- Add the water little by little till all the bittergourd slices get coated with the flour mixture
- Heat the oil in a pan
- Drop a few of the flour mixture coated bittergourd slices in the oil
- Deep fry them till they turn crispy
- Fry the rest of the bittergourd slices in batches
- Serve hot or store in an airtight container

- This goes well with lemon rice, tamarind rice, Amla rice, coconut rice, curd rice
