AVAL KESARI - STEP BY STEP RECIPE

Hi friends,
Aval kesari is an easy to prepare dessert recipe. It can be offered as neivedhyam or offering to god during festivals or special occasions.

Ingredients:

  • Aval or beaten rice flakes - 3/4 cup
  • Ghee or clarified butter - 1 teaspoon + 2 tablespoons 
  • Cashews - 6
  • Raisins - 6
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Milk - 1/2 cup; boiled and cooled
  • Kesari powder (orange edible food colour) - a pinch 
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1/4 teaspoon 
  • Edible camphor powder or Pachai karpooram - a pinch
Method:
  • Dry roast the aval or beaten rice flakes in a pan



  • Remove it on to a plate or bowl
  • Wash it with a little water and drain off the water
  • Keep aside
  • Heat a teaspoon of ghee


  •  Add the cashews 


  •  Add the raisins


  • Roast well till the raisins puff up
  • Remove and keep aside


  • Heat the water in the same pan
  • Add the kesari powder 
  • Mix well 


  •  Allow it to boil


  •  Add the milk to it
  • Mix well

  • Add the aval or beaten rice flakes




  • Cook covered with a lid for five minutes 


  •  Remove the lid after five minutes


  • Add the sugar
  • Mix well




  •  Add the roasted cashews and raisins


  •  Add the cardamom powder and edible camphor powder


  •  Stir well till it starts leaving the sides of the pan



  • Transfer to a serving bowl and Serve hot
