Salted fried moong dal is an easy and simple indian snack. It can be made and stored for atleast a week.
INGREDIENTS:
- Moong dal - 1/2 cup
- Water - 1/2-3/4 cup
- Oil for deep frying
- Salt to taste
- Soak the moong dal in water for about 2-3 hours
- Drain the water completely
- Spread the moong dal on a kitchen towel
- Allow it to dry for about half an hour
- Deep fry the moong dal in batches in hot oil
- Remove from oil
- I use the mesh strainer for this, you may also use the puri strainer or the regular strainer for this
- Place it on a kitchen tissue to drain off the excess oil
- Add Salt when the fried moong dal is still hot
- Mix well
- Allow it to cool
- Store in an air-tight container
The airtight container I use for storage depends on the amount that I need to store. Accordingly, I use one of the containers, the links for which are given below:
Tupperware Plastic Container - 1.7 Litres
Tupperware - Within Reach Canister 840ml
Glass Container (400 ml) with Rust Proof Air Tight Lid
Matki Glass jar with Airtight Metal Lid - 500 ml
- You can add pepper powder or red chilli powder to the fried moong dal to make it spicy.
