Punugulu or idli maavu bonda is a deep-fried snack made with idli-dosa batter. It can be made with fresh batter or left-over batter.

Punugulu or idli maavu bonda is a deep-fried snack made with idli-dosa batter. It can be made with fresh batter or left-over batter.
Ingredients:
- Idli-dosa batter - 2 cups
- Rava - 2 tablespoons
- Rice flour - 2 tablespoons
- Onion - 1/2, medium sized, finely chopped
- Green chillies - 2, finely chopped
- Cumin seeds or jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
- Curry leaves - a few
- Salt - to taste
- Oil - for frying
Method:
- Take the idli-dosa batter in a bowl
- Add the rava and rice flour
- Mix well
- Add the onions, green chillies, jeera, curry leaves and salt
- Mix well
- Heat oil in a pan
- Take a little batter with your hand
- Drop it in the hot oil as small portions
- Allow it to deep fry
- Flip over and cook on all sides
- Remove it onto a kitchen tissue (paper towel) to drain off the excess oil
- Serve hot with coconut chutney, green chutney, tomato garlic chutney or onion tomato coriander chutney
