Vazhakkai or raw banana poriyal is an easy to prepare recipe that can be had as an accompaniment with sambar or kaara kulambu in a South-Indian meal.
Vazhakkai or raw banana poriyal is an easy to prepare recipe that can be had as an accompaniment with sambar or kaara kulambu in a South-Indian meal.
Ingredients:
- Raw bananas / Vazhakkai - 2
- Green chillies - 2, vertically slit
- Onions - 1, medium sized, finely chopped
- Curry leaves - a few
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - to taste
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds or jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 1/2 - 3/4 cup
Method:
- Cut the raw banana into cubes or desired shapes
- Keep aside
- Heat the oil in a pan
- Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves
- Once the seeds splutter, add the green chillies and chopped onions
- Sauté well till the onions turn transparent
- Add the turmeric powder and salt
- Sauté well
- Add the cut raw bananas
- Saute well
- Add the water
- Allow it to cook covered with a lid
- Once cooked, Transfer to a serving bowl
- Serve hot with accompaniment of your choice
